Projects: Other Composing

In addition to leading and writing for his own ensembles, Rogers has composed music for projects collaborating with theater, dance, world music, and classical ensembles.

One such work is David Rogers's and Bernard Woma's "Gyil Jumbie Concerto," the first-ever concerto for symphony orchestra and gyil (an African xylophone from Ghana).

The piece began as a commission for new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound, which premiered it in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall.

Later, Rogers and Woma expanded the piece into its full concerto version, which has been performed several times by the Bernard Woma Ensemble with American orchestras.
